What classes to take in college for accounting?

What types of classes do i take in college if i want to major in accounting?

  • Answer:

As has been mentioned, gen eds are a given. Most business majors have to take at least college algebra or a business calculus class. The math classes are not that heavy, because accounting is NOT math. The accounting classes you will most likely have to take include: Some type of intro to accounting, cost accounting, intermediate 1 and 2, and auditing. The rest vary from school to school and can include cost accounting 2, governmental accounting, and advanced financial accounting.

For sure math classes. Your academic advisor in the accounting department will give you a sheet of the classes you need to take, and help you choose which ones for each semester.

You'll be given a control sheet which tells you what classes you need to take for that major to get your degree.

Every college student has two years worth of "general education" classes they need to take. You remember in high school when you had to take English 1-4, History, government, 3 years of math, things like that? Well college is almost exactly the same way. You'll be taking those for two years before you'll get into anything interesting. Good luck.
