How can I write my college essay?

How do you write a college essay that describes yourself in a unique way while being 500 words or less?

  • My english teacher recently made us write a mock application essay using the prompts from the common application. He wouldn't take off for word count, but I know it has to be around 500 max. Problem is when I stuck to 500 words my essay sounded VERY generic. Didn't elaborate much and didn't put much substance to the things I claimed. Taking this into account, I tried putting more substance, but my essay ended up being over 1000 words. Now I don't think I'll be using this essay for applications, but if I happen to write another essay chances are I might go over the limit again. Any advice on how to write a stellar, unique essay that gives substance, properly reveals who you are, and is short enough to write in 500 words or less?

    Well, do an intro with an attention grabber, like something crazy you did as a kid or whatever you wish. Then, give many examples and describe them, but make them ones that are not complicated, so they do not need a whole lot of explaining. I hate word counts, they make what could be a good essay vague.. Good luck though!
