It kind of crushed me cause i wanted to change my major to computer science? is he right? would I be making astupid msitake?

  • Answer:

There will always be a need for computer programmers. Computers cannot program themselves, therefore it will be a good job. It is a good field to go in to. You have to be somewhat good at math and problem solving. I have took a couple programming classes in college. As far as what your friend said about copying and pasting code that is not true. Im sure there are some cases where you can find a bit of code and paste it. But there are specific needs for specific programs that cannot just be copied and pasted. Do some research on the average pay for computer programmers. You will find it is a well-paying field. If you already enjoy stuff like HTML than you should enjoy programming. It is always good to do something you enjoy.

google, amazon, facebook, Apple ... these are the most exciting companies in the world right now and the all rely heavily on computer engineers.

Study computer programming. There is no better career choice than one you have a passion for. Like all things, it will change and grow. As a professional, you will change and grow with it. And while you are studying it, you will be able to see the changes in your field before the person on the street will.

Your friend obviously knows nothing about programming if he thinks companies just copy and paste code to create new programs. Function calls are very specific, and someone without a knowledge of programming wouldn't be able to get the new program to do what they want it to. Also, computers can't code themselves, that's just ridiculous, and it's not likely to happen in our lifetime. Computer Programming is a legitimate career, and it's not one that's being outsourced to other countries, because there would be tons of compatibility issues considering the different languages, operating systems, and communication issues. If you're a strong programmer, you can find a place for yourself working in the game industry. It doesn't pay the best, but the game industry is a lot of fun, and a more laidback atmostphere than a typical office programming job.
