What should I be doing as a freshman to prepare for college/ college admissions?

  • Hello, I'm a high school freshman and I'd love any advice you have to offer! I'm wondering what exactly a person my age should be doing to prepare for college/college admissions. I'm a straight A student and the top of my class. Academics and success in school are some of my top priorities. (I also play the flute and participate in local events, festivals, competitions and am a member of a youth orchestra- don't know if that's important or not!). If I'm hoping to get into a very good university, is there anything else I should be doing? I am willing to work hard, but I'm not sure if there is anything in specific that is important to focus on. Thank you!

    You're on the right track already! Find a few clubs to add to your other activities. These can be music related since you're already involved, but you can add others that you're interested in. Try to find things that you're passionate about, and that you can achieve leadership positions in. That doesn't mean you have to be student council president or anything; there are plenty of opportunities in clubs, student organizations, etc. You can also try to start volunteering a few hours a week. You can find volunteer opportunities everywhere; retirement homes, animal shelters, you can even try volunteering as a tutor. If you've already got the grades, you should have no problem getting into honors societies. If that's already going for you, it's important to find other ways to distinguish yourself from other applicants. Make sure the things you decide to include are things you're passionate about. It'll make them easier to stick with, and easier to write about should you use them for your entrance essay. Good luck!

Go to one of these Universities. The very good kind. Wander around. See their orchestra, if that is your interest. Talk to anyone who will talk to you. Students Professors Snack bar workers. The garbage hauler. When you get home answer the question. "Do I want to spend four years of my life in a place like this?" It's your life. You get to steer it. Make sure where your headed is a place you wouldn't mind being. The fact that most people will switch careers a number of times doesn't mean you should just drift, people who steer their life raft have a better chance of being rescued. ... of being happy.

Constitution as computer program and same for the u.s. constitution in particular the bill of rights. the massachusetts institute of technology seems to fit since about technology.

You need to be sure to participate in extra curricular activities including being an officer. Another thing is to do a bit of volunteer work in your local community.
