How do you decide on a college?

How can anyone decide on a college major?

  • There is more tan one thing that I'm thinking about majoring in, but I can not decide! They are not similar majors, either. I'm thinking of fashion merchandising, elementary education, and nutrition but I'm clueless on how to decide which to pursue, and I refuse to go into college as 'undecided' for various reasons, including money. How did you decide on your major, or what are tips for me to make my decision?

    Try looking up information on those majors, or talk to people you know in those careers. See which fits you best and which you think that you can stand an entire lifetime of. Many majors can be completed in four years even if you go in undecided and change majors later, so consider that. Also, which one is the broadest? For example, I'm interested in Aerospace Engineering, but a lot of people have suggested I do Mechanical Engineering, because you can still to Aerospace with it, but it's broader so you can do other things. Instead of fashion merchandising, why not advertising or general merchandising? You could also consider having minors. Of course, I'd still rather do Aerospace than Mechanical, so I understand if you're more interested in the specific than you are the broad.

What's wrong with going as undecided? And how does it relate to money in any way at all? This is exactly how I decided on my major...I went as an undecided major the first year, took a few classes in each of the main areas I was interested in, and ended up declaring my major in psychology at the beginning of my second year. I don't understand your reasoning for not wanting to do this, but it's the only tip I have to help you make your decision.

I was originally a Political Science major but I found out that I liked Pure Mathematics alot so I ended up majoring in that subject. The first two years of college will tell you everything that you need to know about the next two years. For me, I found out that I didn't care about Biology, Chemistry and Physics. The reason why I took so many of these intro-level courses was because I wanted to know where I would fit best. Rarely anyone decides to stick with their original choice before they experience college. In my opinion, you should take intro-level courses in those subjects and see what your best strengths are and where your interests lie. Don't take a class because someone thinks that it's good for you, it just won't work like that.
