What's a career I can go into without going to a traditional college? Need career advice??? I need a job that will open up some doors for me financially, so that maybe one day I can afford a traditional college. I went to a traditional Christian college 5 yrs ago, and I was not able to afford it. I left my junior year. I had some health problems that kept me out of college for years, but now I'm planning to return back to college after I pay down some of my past debts. I feel like going to traditional college may be a waste of time in this economy, because many of my peers are finished with their 4 yr degrees working at jobs that someone without a degree can get. I am having hard time finding work in the places I want to work, since I have not finished college. My major was Marketing. But I have no idea what to do. I'm sick of being in debt, and I know that going back to college wont guarantee me getting the job of my dreams. It's hard out here. I just need some advice on what I should do, or who I should talk to about how to survive and make money, no longer need to depend on others (parents). It's ideal to go into business for yourself, but I'm not sure if I'm ready and I need money first right? I need a business, but will a trade school help with this? Some advice from someone knowledgeable would surely help! Thanks so much. Will I save more money if I just finish traditional college degree rather than starting over at a trade school? I just don't want to waste my time and make a mistake here.

Answer:
Go to college, it's ALWAYS better in the long run. My dad went to college and is now a geologgist. My mom didn't and she's struggling with her "own" company.

With great respect, and after reading about your past college experiences and present debt, I suggest: Plumbing, heating, air conditioning, electrician, computer repair, computer security. Any one of these can help you start your own business. First you join some one in the profession. Then you make enough money to join him/her in the business or branch out on your own. Get your license. Buy insurance. Buy your own truck. Be wary of private trade schools. Get a job with some one in the trade first who may have gone to one of these schools. Only then consider going there.
You could commit to a 4yr apprenticeship in some decent trade Or, take a degree that combines academics with some technical qualification, such as one of the degrees listed below.
Culinary. It's fun and not ordinary.
