Good music colleges?

Considering going into Music. Specifically Music For Film. What colleges are good for this? USC/UCLA?

  • I'm a sophomore in high school and plan on going into film music after I graduate. I have been looking into different colleges and have found a few good ones. Specifically USC Thornton as it will give me connections into the SMPTV program at USC for my graduates and UCLA. How much into consideration are school grades/SAT's taken into when applying for Composition/MUsic? What are key factors/tips needed? How hard is it to get into Thornton and is it a good school in general? Thanks and please all help/answers are appreciated!

  • Answer:

USC probably has the best graduate film scoring program. I do not know how earning the bachelor's degree their affects admission. In most fields, universities do not like to admit their own undergraduates to their graduate programs as the theory is that students should study for each degree under the faculty of a different university. I suggest that you get an official answer to this question from the USC graduate school film scoring program. If you are going to succeed in this field, you should be able to play the piano effortlessly in sightreading and after practicing in a variety of genres even if your ability is not at the solo concert performance level.
