College or Job? What's the better choice?
-
I'm in my 2nd semester of college and I just realized that college just isn't for me right now. I don't have have a major and I just don't know what I want to do with my life just yet. I was thinking of not signing up for next semester and getting a job instead hopefully full time and saving up money while still living at my parents house. Then when I have enough move out, get an apartment while still working full time. I want to get some real world experience. Also, when I am ready and I decided my major I can always go back. Is this a good idea? or what would you suggest? Thanks for all your help. Its appreciated.

Answer:
I have maintained that college should be for those with a defninite career path in mind; otherwise enter the work world and stop playing around.

i'm only a high school student, but i know no matter what i'll be staying in college until i graduate. and from what i've heard, most kids who say they'll take a semester off or something never go back
If you don't think you can do your best in college right now, don't waste the money. Getting a job would be great, but you have to keep in mind that you need to WORK, and hard. Your peers are in college furthering their education; if you want to be competitive at all in the future, you need to know the ins and outs of the working world. Don't use it as an excuse to slack of even for a minute. To be honest, being in college is a lot easier than being out in the real world. The most you have to worry about are exams and grades. Make sure you know what you're doing, and know that there is no easy way out!
I would definitely suggest that you stay at college and keep taking classes until you find something that you somewhat enjoy doing. You are only in your 2nd semester ( I personally didn't figure out what I wanted to do until halfway through my 3rd year) and everyone (including me) goes through that freshman/sophomore slump where they want to drop out and get a job. I'm glad I stayed, because as a college grad who is currently living at home while working full time, trust me: it's not as great as it sounds. Finding a decent paying job and an affordable apartment is much more difficult than I thought it would be (and living at home sucks way more than I thought!). Also, as other people mentioned above me, it can be pretty tough to go back to school and get into that academic mindset once you get settled into a job and start making your own money.
You should work instead for now until your certain about what you want! your plans goood! :)
