How can I be accepted to UCSB?

Waitlisted for UCSC, but accepted UCSB?

  • I got a chancellors letter from UCSB and everything, but was wait listed for UCSC. I thought UCSB was harder to get into. I was undecided for both. Can anyone explain that?

  • Answer:

You are correct, UCSB is substantially harder to get into than UCSC. However, admissions is a quirky process. You can never tell what will catch the eye of an admissions official. I applied to UCSC and was accepted because I applied as a Computer Science major at a time when the university was trying to build up its CS department. This was much to the annoyance of an ex-girlfriend of mine who applied as a Psychology major and was turned down. She thought she was much smarter than me and it irritated her no end that I was accepted while she was not. This suited me just fine. One of my nephews got a full scholarship at a major university because he played the tuba, and the school needed tuba players for its marching band. more college admissions info https://sites.google.com/site/paul7collegeinfo/

Both are great schools, congratulations! It doesn’t matter your choice, you will come out with a solid education. Acceptance varies. Yes one school might be harder to get into, but maybe they saw something on your application the other school didn’t see, and they know for sure they want you. Even if it’s hard, you achieved it. Be proud you got accepted, the school saw something in you!
