Whats the process of graduating and going to college in America?
-
I'm thinking of going to college in the U.S,and i realized I'm clueless as to how things work. what tests do students take to graduate from high school and be admitted to college? are there a number of tests? SET and a bunch of others...are two separate test taken one at the end of high school and another for college or just one? p.s; as a international student would i need to take a particular test as well? thank you,and pleas tell me what you think of the system.

Answer:
You should go to the websites for some of the US unis that appeal to you, and read what they require of international applicants. It really does vary from uni to uni. Some will require you to take the US's college entrance exam, the SAT. Others won't need that from international students. If you were educated in an education system where English was not the medium of instruction, you'll also have to take the TOEFL to prove your competency in English. Some good US universities to start looking at, just as a sampling, include Boston University, New York University, and Reed College - just as some examples for you to check out, to learn more about what unis need from international applicants.

Each college is different, but for me, as well as most of my friends, we had the choice of taking either the SAT or the ACT any time in high school. Each college has different score requirements, but most people meet them. If they don't, there is always a chance to retake the test. Also, your test scores, transcript, and application should be sent to the college you are applying for, along with an application fee (set by the college). They will send you a letter and/or call to let you know the results. Being an international student, there are probably a few more steps to applying that I don't know about, but you can always call the college and ask, because they are always willing to give you any information you need.
the only test you need to get into any college with the exception of community college are the SAT's....after you take the SAT you send ur scores from the SAT to colleges ur applying to.....the only college who don't take SAT scores are community colleges idk if international students take the SAT tho....just check to see to make sure also, colleges probably have a department on international students so if you get stuck along the way just call up the school
it's long anymore is better to work and go to school so if you need to make changes along the way you can.
for community college you dont need anything. for university you need SAT.
