What are the best classes to take in high school to become a doctor?

  • I want to become a doctor later on in life. What classes/programs would be best to take in high school (I'm a freshman) to get into a good medical college? And are there any important tests or requirements that would be good to meet? I am currently taking... Band Pre-Ap English Pre-Cal/Trig Chinese III Pre-Ap Biology Pre-Ap OK History/Pre-AP Gov. next year I plan to take: AP Calc BC Pre-AP English (2 years required before you can take AP) AP US History Band (which I plan to take throughout high school. Never quitting) but I'm not sure what to take for my last 2 classes. General anatomy is only 1 semester, and i don't know what i can take for another semester. and would Physics or Chemistry be better?

    Other than AP biology. AP Chemistry and calculus, what you take in high school does not matter. Few high schools offer anatomy but that is good too.

Well your doing good, I am Pre-med right now. You have to get a degree in biology or chemistry with following the pre requisites for pre-med. You also have to shadow a doctor and volunteer while getting this degree, THEN you apply to medical school. The AP classes are good to get college credit, and to be honest, I did them and it does not matter much, only for College credit. To make classes in college easier, take physics, chemistry, biology, statistics, calculus and any of that sort of thing. You sound dedicated, so you can do it. It is a lot of work. Good luck =)

Take a Medical Science class (if they offer that at your school). At my school I took Medical Science and we got to go to the Hospital every week and spend time with the doctors and nurses. Yes we did get too see what they see! Take Latin, it ifs offered. You WILL need to take some Latin since a lot of the names in the medical field come from Latin. Biology and Chemistry Keep taking high math classes as you are. Band! I'm in band too! I play the flute! :D
