Is it still too late to apply for CSU?

Is this CSU (California State University) rank correct for the Master in Accountancy program?

  • I recently graduated from UC Berkeley and still have no luck in landing a job. So I wanted to do a Master in Accountancy (MA) degree and CSU is my only option because of the budget (I heard graduate school does not offer financial aid, and I was not the top 10% performing students during my time in Berkeley). (I would definitely prefer to go to a UC if it's for MBA, but for an MA, I think it's good enough for now.) I want to gather information to see which CSU has a higher rank in MA. Unfortunately, these schools are not top ranked and information are limited, so it was hard for me to make a decision. Therefore, I use limited information provided by U.S. News on business grad school (no MA rank is given anywhere, so I used info from a related major), rank of school recognition worldwide, and take into consideration with the location of the CPA or accounting firms and made the following conclusion. Can someone who is knowledgeable or a profession in the school system confirm the following conclusion (if possible, please provide evident for me): 1) San Diego State University 2) Cal State Fullerton 3) San Francisco State University 4) Cal State Northridge 5) Cal State Long Beach The application deadline is March 30, so I definitely want to get the rank right before I apply. Thanks!

  • Answer:

The difference in the academic rankings is not going to have much effect on finding a job. For getting a job, there are two groups of business programs: the top thirty (public and private combined) and the rest. As to local job markets, that's your call, although I would not consider San Jose and especialy Fremont to outrank Los Angeles as financial centers. By some measures Los Angeles outranks San Francisco.

I recommend Golden Gate University in San Francisco. I dont think it matters which one of those campuses you attend. Just a matter of where you want to live. I think you should also look at San Jose State or some of the UC campuses.
