Pharmacists, what pre-requisites did you take before you got accepted into your school of Pharmacy?
-
Hey all, I'm doing a degree plan. I've done my research, but it never hurts to get more brains involved and learn from peoples past experiences. I was wondering if any of you who have been through it can name the classes you took? How many years it take for you before you had the necessary prerequisites you needed in order to get accepted to your school of Pharmacy? It would be very helpful if you can tell me what classes you took year by year to help me out. I will be finishing up my degree plan (just a draft) later tonight so I hope to get many replies to help me understand a little better the process it took for the majority of you. I've researched many colleges prerequisites and they all have them a bit different, I pretty much know the main classes but still would be great to hear from you all, so hope you all will help me out. Thanks everyone! :)

Answer:
For my pre-requisites I took: I AP'd out of: College Algebra Calculus History I & II English I & II 1st year: - General Biology I & II with Lab (pharm. school required Gen. Bio. I & II, but my undergrad school and major in reality required 3 General Biology classes) - Computer Science (my pharm. school required either Sociology, Psychology, Economics or Computer Science, but I ended up taking all of them for my bachelor's degree and to fit other pharmacy school's requirements of wanting specific ones) 2nd year: - General Chemistry I & II with Lab - Genetics with Lab - Molecular Biology with Lab (my pharmacy school allowed either Mol. Bio. or Genetics, but my majors required both, so I ended up taking both anyways) - Art Appreciation - Intro. to Philosophy - Intro. to Psychology - Speech Communications 3rd year: - Organic Chemistry I with Lab - Intro. to Sociology - Statistics - Microbiology - Government I - Physics I with Lab 4th year: - Organic Chemistry II with Lab - Government II - Macroeconomics (not specifically required by the pharm. school I ended up attending, but required by another that I was planning to attend, and also added to my bachelor's core requirements) I did this over a span of 4 years because I double majored in Biochemistry/Molecular Biology and Biology at the same time. A bachelor's degree isn't required, but it helps. It is possible to do all your prerequisites in 2 years and I do have classmates that did. However, most pharmacy students take 3-4 years (with the majority completing a Bachelor's in the process). In my class, about 60% of the admitted students had a Bachelor's degree or higher.
