What career path to go?

Can't decide what career path to go for?

  • I am a sophomore in college, and I have changed my mind of what career I want at least a dozen times. I am a very creative and artsy person. I am also a caring and compassionate person. I have gone into nursing three times, but have always backed out at the last second before classes started. Nursing is definitely a passion of mine (I shadowed a nurse and loved it). The problem is, when I decide to go into nursing, I feel like I'm leaving my creativity and desire for an out of the ordinary life behind. I am currently majoring in communications because (i know it's far fetched) I also love to make youtube videos, and my dream is to be successful with that. If that doesn't happen, I have the degree and there are many job options available with a communications degree. I realize that nursing would be a more stable source of income, but I'm really trying to find the career that will make me happy. I feel a passion towards nursing, and I always feel pulled toward it when I'm not planning to be a nurse. I just hate leaving my "dream" of the unique and creative life I always wanted. I do have a passion for nursing that I do not have for anything else though. It's weird to understand, but I have a dream and I have a passion for two different things, and I don't know which to choose. Any advice?

With the way the economy is there isn't really any career that is that stable. They're trying to get rid of LPNs right now you you'll really need to be an RN if that's what you really want. I have a similar problem to yours, im creative but can't decide between science or anthropology. Science is more in demand but anthropology is what I love. I would recommend the RN, you could work in a hospital which requires quick thinking and compassion. My mom, an LPN,works with nurses and such on a daily basis and half of them are not so nice to the patients, what im getting at is the field needs more of you in it. As for the creativity aspect a job and the education in nursing will be demanding but once things even out it you will have time for that sort of thing out side of work. It's hard to leave behind but priorities first: get educated, get a job and survive. That's how I see it. Good luck with whatever you choose. :)

Well, I can only tell you this. My mother is an RN. She went to school, but it was very difficult like it is for all college students. Being a nurse though opens you to meeting people that are less fortunate and sometimes can be a handful. You might even have to run the halls a lot and watch other people lie around on their lazy behinds. Just be mindful. Being a nurse is a good thing, but just watch where you take up your vocation.
