How can I become a journalist?

Can you become a journalist with a politics degree?

  • I'm interested in becoming a journalist, more specifically a broadcast journalist (always had a fascination with tv presenters for entertainment shows, or news reporters etc) and was wondering if you can break into this with a politics degree? Or is a media studies degree better? Also, if a politics degree was acceptable what careers would it lead to journalism? e.g. would it let me become a reporter on the news but not for an entertainment show.. Thanks!

  • Answer:

Yes you can, just put your mind to it and you can do it :) <3

Mar. 16, 2012: "In recent weeks, [several sources] have reported that the press is 'America’s fastest-shrinking industry', measured by jobs lost; the Newspaper Association of America has shown that advertising sales have halved since 2005 and are now at 1984’s level; and the Pew Research Center has found that for every digital ad dollar they earned, they lost $7 in print ads." Why would anyone want a degree in journalism? It's a career dead-end, whether print or electronic.
