A PA is a great profession, but programs are extremely competitive. If you want to apply, first you're going to have to make sure you have taken all of the prerequisite courses. Since you have a degree in fashion, this will probably take you a couple years. Most programs require 2 semesters A&P (with labs), 2 semesters Inorganic Chemistry (with labs), 2 semesters Organic Chemistry (with labs), Biochemistry, Statistics, & a number of other science courses. You will also need to take the GRE & get a relatively high score. Most PA programs also want to see that you have been involved in health care in some capacity, whether it be working or volunteering. Like I said, PA programs are very competitive & most receive about 300 applicants & only accept about 30. The programs last on average 27-30 months. If you really feel like it's what you want to do, then go for it! Good Luck!

I think you are very smart for thinking and planning for your future. You love fashion and graduated from fashion school, congrats! PAs are in high demand and it is a wise choice to start looking into it. But I know they have lots of pre-requisites like chemistry, physics, microbiology, etc. You need to make sure if you have fulfilled any of them before. The application is strict and some even ask for work or volunteer experience in a hospital. My friend applied for Charles Drew in Los Angeles, and there were 1600 applicants fighting for 40 openings. During the program, it was hectic, you must be prepared to miss out on a lot of social events. Needless to say, the reward for helping out people is priceless. My friend gets the respect and gratefulness from patients all the time, she's really happy. BTW, it pays very well too. Best wishes!

It would be a wise decision to get into the health care field, but just know that a physician assistant program is VERY competitive, and just getting accepted can take years, I had classes in the same building as some of the PA students and they told me all about it.

Find what you're passionate about. Whatever you're passionate about, whether it's fashion or health care, stick with it. Success will come. If you go into an industry that you have no passion in, you'll fail, regardless of how much that position pays. And you'll be miserable.

You old "sew and sew". ;) You should pursue the carreer that's fulfilling to you and serves the community. If you're attracted to PA and can do the work, it sounds like a great option. You're young and this is a good time for it. Go for it!
