What if your GCSE grades are not meeting up the requirements set by UK universities?

Could I contact a university via email to ask them about their courses & requirements?

  • I would like to email a good university in the UK to ask them about some advice on my a level choices and their requirements. I have my GCSE results; 3a*(physics,english,fine art), 5a (english lit, maths, geography, biology, chemistry) and 2b (RE and French) and I'm thinking of going into medicine. I am taking physics, chemistry, maths, further maths and english literature for A levels Do you think its worth contacting a university or will they just think I'm some stupid kid with bad grades who is desperate to go to university o_e if its a good idea.. does anyone have an email address I could use? I was thinking maybe Edinburgh, UCL, Durham.. they are good universities, or am I being too ambitious considering my GCSE results aren't exactly top marks :/ I just want advice on what to take and if I have any chance of being accepted :( I'm dissapointed with my gcses... I'm going to work hard for my A levels, but I need to know if I'm on the right track or if I just might aswell give up now.

The place to start is the website. 9 times out of 10, anyone that answers the phone or email will tell you to go to the website.

You are on the right track but don't rush it because if you begin focusing on university now you could get distracted from your A-levels (trust me I have done it). Focus on your A-levels and begin looking at universities and go to open days. Open days are important because the pictures of the university in the prospectus does not give you a clear idea of what it is like. Concentrate soley on your work and don't put yourself down by saying your GCSE's 'aren't exactly top marks' I know a lot of people who would love to have those marks and you should be very proud of yourself :) Also do not email universities for information many of my lecturers in the past have said they hate it when people email them. I would recommend telephoning or arranging a meeting with them to show how interested you are. Good luck with your A-levels I am sure you will do fab :) xx
