Do I have A Chance of Getting Into the University of Chicago?

Do I Still Have A Chance Of Getting Into College/University? Please Help... I'm Getting Desperate...?

  • I'm a Freshman, but I screwed up this year with a 2.4 gpa. I have always got bad grades in Elementary school and Middle School. I Middle School, my gpa was a 1.4. I know it's silly of me to worry when I'm just a Freshman and that I could have a chance of getting into a college if I don't mess around in my Sophomore-Senior year, but I have never gotten a gpa higher than a 2.6 before. Ever in my whole entire life. That's how stupid and careless I am. But when I started getting interested into going to college/university, I got scared for the first time. I'm really worried that I'll have to go to a community college, which I really don't want to go! My question is... Do I still have a chance of getting into a really good college/university? And what does my gpa have to be to go to UW or Harvard? I'm not really planning to go there, but the university I want to go to, is hard to get into I heard. So if I could actually have a chance of getting into one of those schools, I know I'll have a easy chance of getting into the university I want to attend. Will I have to get all 4.0 gpa's for my Sophomore-Senior year to get into UW and Harvard when I messed up this year? Please answer... Thank you!

First off, don't rule out a community college. I have attended a 4 year private college, a 4 year state univeristy and a 2 year community college (I changed majors and that's why I had to transfer twice). Out of those colleges, the best education I got was at the community college because, in my opinion, the professors there cared more about teaching and were more dedicated. The professors I had at the other colleges were okay, but not nearly as good. I say go to a community college for 2 years, then transfer to a four year school. Also, if you do this, the four year college will look at your college grades from the two year college and not at your high school grades. Second, if colleges see your GPA is low your freshman year, but much better your sophomore through senior years, they will take into consideration that you started working harder after your freshman year. So, I wouldn't worry about that as long as you step it up the rest of high school. Best of luck!

Sorry, but you're going to have to get realistic. With only a 2.4 GPA you'd be lucky to get into any college, let alone a top college. To get into a place like Harvard you need a 4.0 GPA (or very close to it). Don't be so put off by community college. Community college is a great way to cut the cost of going to college. If you do well, after two years you can transfer to a four-year school to complete your Bachelors degree. more on college admissions https://sites.google.com/site/paul7collegeinfo/

The average Harvard GPA is 3.82. Even if you got a 4.0 for the rest of your high schools years you'd only have a 3.6, so you basically have no chance at Harvard. The average SAT score is 2129, so you'd have to get close to that range to be competitive. As for UW are you talking about Wisconsin, Washington, or Wyoming? There's more than one state with a W.
