What will the gpa be with this grade?

If I re-take a failed class in college, will my GPA reflect the new grade?

  • Ok, so last semester I had some family issues, and couldn't audit or w/d from a class. As a result, got an "F". If I re-take the class next semester, will my new grade reflect on my GPA? This dropped my GPA from a 3.84 to a 3.54. Thanks

Yes, it should. But as always you should get that answer direct from your school. Your college adviser, or even the admissions office should be able to confirm

The new grade should replace the old grade on your transcript, but you need to find the answer out for sure by contacting your university. They will be able to tell you the right answer so you can be 100% certain. Also, keep in mind that if you plan on applying to grad school or law school in the future that some schools (definitely law schools, I think grad schools are case-by-case basis) go by your total calculated GPA including any repeated class grades (so they would add that F in when calculating your cumulative GPA).

Yes, if you pass the class the second time around. In my college, you can only retake a class once. I got an F in Fall 2009 in English I and I retook it in Spring 2010 and got a B.
