Which California state universities are the best?

Cal Poly SLO has the highest rating in US News & World Report and is an excellent choice if they have your major, for example Nursing is not offered.

UCLA and UC Berkeley are UCs. The best Cal States are Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and Cal Poly Pomona. They are commonly ranked with UCD, UCSB, and UCI. After those, Sonoma is the Cal State most UC professors' children attend if they do not go to a UC. Hope that helps!

UC schools are the top end. Then the ones with "Polytechnic" in their names. Then the ones that are "City Name" State University The the ones that are California State University "City Name" My daughter who is now in grad school, considers Cal State Chico the lowest end school of the lot.

Do you mean the UC system or the CSU system? For UCs: UCLA, UCB, UCD and UCSD are the best. For CSU's: I would say Cal Poly SLO and Sonoma State. I live my sonoma state and it is really a fantastic school. Cal Poly is an amazing school as well, but very hard to get into. I know someone with a 29 ACT and 4.0 GPA that was denied. Cal Poly is probably the hardest state school (in the CSU chain) to get into.
