High school / college issues? ToWhomItMayConcern... I have a problem that I wont get to go to a respectable college or even succeed in life. I did well 9th and 10th grade I would probably say like a B, B- average for both years but 11th grade was deff. the worst = *Alg 2(regents)* I got a D for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd ( was actually a C-) and for 4th marking period grades i got a C- as well *French Com 2* I got a B- for all marking period grades *Chem Com* fluctuated between B+ and A- all year * English (honors)* I got like a B, A average But then It got worse...I took the SAT on May 2nd and when I got my score back it was a 1250 :( when I was really trying to aim for like a 1950 or something like that this summer I have done noting but go to summer school to take 12th grade classes = Gov and E-con so that I won't have to take them next year... what guidance advice does anyone have for me or any college recommendations (please I am literally on the verge of depression/suicide by the way things are going or going to turn out) Sincerely, TheGirlWhoIsAboutToLoseItAll :(

Answer:
High school shouldn't determine your self worth. The best students in high school can turn out to be dropouts and alcoholics and some mediocre students in high school can end up going to the most famous schools for a Doctorate. My friend's brother ended up going to a community college because his GPA and SAT score wasn't high enough for a state university. But he transferred two years later to a state U and later on received his masters and now is at Princeton University (Ivy League) receiving his PhD in some sort of marine science. It's impressive how time can change things drastically. Just take it one step at a time!

Well, I know you say you don't want to go to community college, but getting your grades and transferring is an excellent option. However, if you're not too picky, start looking at state colleges with high acceptance rates. Not all colleges are hard to get into and yes, D students can get into a four year school. Apply to several to increase your chances, though some four year schools have (or close to) a 100% acceptance rate. Try universities in some of the crappier states. I recommend Florida.
Your grades are fine for getting into a good college. IMHO you simply need to become aware of what is out there. For that check out: http://www.ctcl.org/ http://www.nytimes.com/2006/07/30/education/edlife/gems.html?_r=2&pagewanted=1&sq=20%20Hidden%20Gems&st=nyt&scp=1 My gut feeling is Juniata would be a good choice for you: http://www.ctcl.org/colleges/juniata Thanks Bill
Junior year is always the worst. Senior year will be much better. It is great that have been taking summer school classes. It shows that you care. What I would do is take a SAT study class and then take the test again. You have time to take it maybe 4 times. Get into a prep course and your scores should improve if you work at it. You may need tutoring to catch up on Algebra 2 concepts but that will certainly make a difference in getting into the school you want to.
