See the book/database Medical School Admissions Requirements. Note the GPA and MCAT score ranges. Note the percent of those accepted who did undergraduate research and volunteer work and had clinical experience. Note that you will be competing against students with GPAs of 3.8-4.0 who did excellent undergraduate research, accumulated hours of clinical and volunteer experience, and have excellent letters of recommendation from the professor who supervised their research as well as from the physicians they shadowed. Realize that you will also have to have excellent letters of recommendation from professors and physicians. Be sure that the classes you take at the community college will transfer to UC Berkeley and that the pre-med classes at the community college will prepare you adequately for the MCAT. Working out and playing guitar are good. Medical schools want students who care about their own health and have personal interests outside of science and medicine.

Dude, think about it. If you aren't the type of guy who can devote pretty much 24/7 to study, then imagine how painful it would be to go through 10 or more years of school. They basically study, eat, and sleep. I wanted to do it too, but then when you realize while you're in school, your friends will be graduating in 4 years and getting their careers started. It made me change my mind.

It's not just about the resume - it's about work in Sciences for Med School and your commitment to the course and your grades. I don't think working out and playing the guitar will help you get in. You will need all A's in community college, and then,Good SAT's, all A's at Berkely (if you are accepted), that's go get into Pre-Med, where you will also need all A's plus a great score on you M-CAT, before acceptance to Med School. I'm glad to hear that you are saving money because the 11 to 12 years of education to become a doctor will cost you hundreds of thousands of dollars.
