What should I take in university/college to become a police officer?
-
Im only in grade 9 now, but i really want to become a police officer when i am older. I know that in the region where i am in, (durham region in ontario) you only need your highschool diploma. Although, It would be good to have a higher level of education such as college or university. So I'm just wondering what would be good to take in university or college to become a police officer. Or, should i not take anything and just apply right after high school? I also heard that It will be easier for me to get in because i am a girl, and they need more girls at the moment. Thanks!

Answer:
Definitely go to college. Getting police officer jobs is becoming more and more competitive. Get a 4 year degree if you can. Get the highest grade point average that you can. Having a degree can help you get hired. Having a degree can also help you get promoted during your career. Choose a major that interests you and that could also be useful for police work. There are many good majors for police officers or people that want to become police officers. Accounting, communications, computer science, a foreign language, law, or psychology are some examples. Being a female might benefit you. Some police departments have a difficult time attracting enough qualified female applicants. Do whatever you can to make yourself the best candidate that you can. Improve all of your communication skills as much as possible. Don't do anything illegal. Maintain a good reputation. Keep a good driving record. Become as physically fit as you can.
