most of the personal statements that ive read so far seem to deal with your life ect. honestly i have a boring life. i rarely go out on the weekends cuz i have to study at home and i dont have a million friends. and i cant think of anything that ive done super special or anything that has affected me to take big action. is it ok if i make something up or will people find out? tanks

Answer:
It'll be stupid and obvious and annoying to deal with if you make it up. It's okay if you don't have an exciting life. Colleges know that not everyone has thrilling lives. Talk about how dedicated you are to your work (which is why you don't go out on weekends). Talk about how you prefer to be alone or with people who really get you (not a million friends). That sort of thing. You can write about anything. You just need to think about it differently.

Your personal statement is what you want colleges to learn about you that is not apparent in your test scores, teacher references etc. As a college admissions officer, I highly suggest you NOT to fabricate something for 1. we can usually tell and 2. integrity on a student's behalf is highly valued. Your personal statement does need to be about high school-it can be anything. Anything as long as it portrays to admissions what kind of person you are, your values, your beliefs etc.
Well yeah, you can make anything up as long as the people you're lying to believe you :P Seriously though, in your personal statement just enthuse about the subject and why you are the right candidate for whichever degree you're applying to, only about a paragraph at the end should be about you. Mine was only 3 lines, just I enjoy reading, horse riding and playing piano. I also rock-climb once a month and go on ski holidays with my family once a year. I haven't ridden or playing piano for years, I never read and I haven't been on holiday since I was 7, but they'll never know that. As long as you've got good grades the personal statement is just a formality, don't worry about. (I got in for my course btw, lol. I actually changed before I got there, and I didn't have to write another personal statement)
Naawww, I wouldn't make it up. You don't include how many friends you had or how many parties you went to. You can include things like research you conducted, organizations you participated in, and how college changed your life. You can include some trials that you'd had to go through in your life, such as the loss of a friend or the loss of a limb. Surely, you can think of something special to you that happened in your life due to college? Include the fact that you stayed home on weekends and studied, that is what graduate colleges are looking for! Good luck.
it's ok, people won't care if it's true or not, what matters is, the style and the way you describe the situation.
