I NEED A GRADUATE DEGREE.

Why do you need a graduate degree to teach undergraduate coursework?

  • you have to master the most complex of issues just to teach the most basic stuff. Don't you think that's stupid?

  • Answer:

The simple rule of thumb for education that is true almost on any level, is that you need to have completed the next level of education in order to teach the lower level of education. This is obviously not true for PhD, but other than that it is generally true.

It's not stupid, at all! Understanding the complex issues of a discipline will help you when you come to teach the basics of it. Like most things in life, you have to master something before you can even hope to teach it. What if a student asks a question which delves into the more complicated areas of your subject? You'd be screwed, and you'd look like a total fool in front of your entire class.

I think this is a screening mechanism designed to ensure and knowledge of the teacher and as a form of quality control. However often teachers without a graduate degree, may turn out better than ones who do. Hope this helps
