  • Answer:

While it is natural to want to go to the best school in your chosen field, it is not necessary. You will not get into that school, you started preparing for it too late, but that should be no problem. Even if they let you in, it would have been too much, people who get into that school are very musically inclined and gifted. While it is uncomforting to have to admit your deficiencies, you would not fare well among all those pros given how far behind you are in so many ways, it would be ineffective to your learning literally and mentally it likely would depress you. Have you ever tried learning something at a pace far too advanced and fast for you? It does not work out well for anyone, Juliard is not a good fit for you most likely given your extremely limited experience with music. Obviously, there is some theoretical chance of admission, but you are just not getting in, there is just no way. There are many awesome music schools out there, find one that actually fits you. Of course, feel free to donate money to the school in the form of an application fee, thousands of students do it every year. But, understand that this really will be a donation, you have to ask yourself why they would accept you among thousands of other students, who have a lot more experience, are better, etc. than you. If you can answer that question and think you should be admitted instead of some other amazing student, then by all means apply. If you are just hoping, you are just wasting time and money.

Well, dude... you first need to learn to spell "Juilliard"

What happened to your dream of becoming a NASCAR driver? You don't have a snowball's chance in Hell of making it into Juilliard.

You are looking at the hardest major to get into at the hardest college. Look at you-tube and watch David Knopfler play Sultans of Swing (dire straits). Then pick your favorite Eric Clapton song and watch Eric play. Learn to play as they do. If you are just strumming cords you can't apply. Julliard has majors in Jazz Guitar and Classical guitar - no rock. If you learn to be in this league then you can make it anywhere. Good luck.

I want you to go to the website for Juilliard right now, and look up their audition requirements. Then work with your guitar teacher to get yourself ready. Admission to Juilliard is almost 100% based on your audition. You need to start now, preparing. For guitar, you will need the following: • All compositions must be performed from memory. 1. Two contrasting movements of a J.S. Bach suite, partita, or sonata (includes Prelude, Fugue & Allegro BWV998). 2. Two etudes by Heitor Villa-Lobos. 3. A complete work of any period. 4. Two contrasting short works: a. One Renaissance, Classical (e.g. Sor, Giuliani, Regondi, Mertz, etc.), or 19th-century. b. One by a 20th-century composer of any style. Only the best get into Juilliard. You need to work hard for this. Continue practicing. If you only do one lesson per week right now, think about doing two, if you can afford it. Continue to perform. And learn to read music. I know a lot of guitarists don't read music - you need to. Get someone - your guitar teacher, your music teacher at high school - to teach you how. Apply to more than just Juilliard. There are good music schools, and music programs within universities, all over the US. You need backup schools, because only 8% of applicants gets into Juilliard.
