What jobs can I get with a geography degree?

Is an Associates Degree in Geography good? and what job options?

  • Im very interested in Geography, Geology, and Biology. Im hoping to get an Associates degree in Geography with some Biology and Geology classes on the side. Would this be a good plan? and what are some jobs i could get into? Im a father of two kids, Im 23 yrs old. I feel like i need to get something done fast.

  • Answer:

Nope a two year Associate degree isn't going to get you a career in biology or geography. If you want to do only a two year degree, check out you local community college for two year career programs. Most are going to be in the health field, which would be good for getting a job.

An associates in Geography isn't worth much on its own, but paired with a relating higher degree, may be useful. For example, geography with geology ( though unless you want to end up as an insurance salesperson, you ought to get your Master's degree at least if you're considering Geography or Geology). You could go into land surveying or something of the sort. Just having a degree does help you in the job field to some extent, even if it's not related, but you should shoot for a Bachelors' eventually since that is what you'll be competing against. Take a little extra time to choose a program you will enjoy and do well in and base it on what you think you want to do for a living. It's OK to just do anything to pay the bills, but working through college doesn't take long and is worth it in the end. You really ought to talk to an Academic Counselor. Pick some colleges that are near you and ask to meet with an adviser. They can help you pick a field of interest and come up wit a plan to get the education you need to succeed.

hi check this link out it has geography and geology jobs http://geologyandgeography.blogspot.com/

I'm sorry, but I can't imagine what an Associate's Degree in Geography would be good for. Even a Bachelor's Degree would not be of much use. You might be able to get a job with a cartography company, but that's about it. A geology degree of any sort in this day & age would get you much, much further. If nothing else, it would get your foot in the door in a landman's office. Good luck & God bless.

You will end up as the assistant to a person with a bachelor's degree. And make 40% less money your entire life. Your job options are very wide open if you are a "current college student." When you show up at a job fair on campus the employers are primarily looking for good grades and a desire to work for them. Type of degree is secondary. They'll mention that they "Prefer" a degree in such and such by that usually doesn't exclude an 'A' student unless the job is VERY specified. Keep in mind this window of opportunity closes rapidly as soon as you finish your degree. So you need to work for someone before you graduate. Employers prefer to steal other companies employers than higher unemployed people. A few years after graduating your current working experience will only matter, so pick only jobs you have an interest in. If you pigeonhole yourself you will be stuck unless you go back and get a 2nd degree.
