What should I do to prepare for college?

What classes should I take in high school to prepare for college?

  • So my school sucks big time! And I heard that most kids going into high school these days are 2 years behind what they should be to be ready for college. My school, well they don't provide the classes needed to get into a nice school like harvard for example. And I am a sophomore this school year. And I am taking all the classes needed to pass high school. But I was wondering for my extra classes. What kind of classes should I take. And tell me any advise on college and getting ready for college.

I am impressed. You are doing the right thing. Well, it depends what you want to do. Think careers. Do you want to work in a bank? Then when you go to college you will want to major in business or finance. Then you want to take HS classes to prep you for this? Do you want to be a biologist? Then you want to be a biology, microbiology, or biochemistry major. Do you want to work at a musuem.. then a history or archeology degree. You do not need to pick the exact profession now. I would narrow it down. Ask yourself this. Do you want a job in sciences (chemist, biologist, physicist, geologist, astronomer, etc), English (librarian, author, editor, reporter), history (curator, historian), or math (engineer, physicist, ect). I would stay away from any career with foods, music, sports, or art. There is no money in it unless you are really really good. Business and computers are good alternatives to. Once you figure that out. Take as many classes in that field as possible. For example, if you decide "I want to be an organic chemist". Then you will want to take chemistry, biology, physics, trig, calculus. If you can take AP classes do it! Take honors classes. Avoid classes that don't fall into your category. If you take a foreign language. Take one that will apply to your field. Popular ones in the REAL world are chinese and arabic.

Enroll in IB (International Baccalaureate). This is the best available program to prepare you for university.

You should take AP or IB classes, depending on what's offered at your school. If neither of these are available to you, at least take honors or enriched. When you apply to colleges, they will take into consideration what you took compared to what your school offers. So that if you only took Honors classes because those are the most advanced classes your school offers, they'll see that. And of course, it's easier to struggle a bot in a harder course than to get 100s in an easy one. Best of luck, I hope this helps! :)

As many AP or IB classes as you can.
