Should I go to college right now if I have no clue what I want to major in, or just go get a job for now?
-
I'm in my 20s. I've been an off and on college student. I've never had a job (mainly because of my parents, grandparents, aunts [intermediate family] constantly telling me to only worry about school) Upon first entering college and the first couple of years there, I can truly say I never really sat down and considered all my options, such as: -What can I do with my degree? -What jobs could I get? -What is the demand for these jobs? Now that I've actually started to give serious thought about what I want to do, I still cant decide at the moment!!! I'm miserable. I havent even looked for a McJob in town yet because I keep telling myself "well I'm going to be leaving again for some school soon" I dont even seriously talk to females. I'm a nice guy, nice looking and some women still want to "talk", but out of respect, I wouldnt even feel comfortable telling some girl that I'm not in school and jobless as well. So I end up sort of ignoring them until I "get myself together" The problem? If I'm not motivated (aka decided on a degree or path I want to take), then I'll end up slacking, not showing up for the classes and end up dropping classes (again, like I've been doing) My question is, what do I do now? As mentioned earlier, I'm still not decided on major and would be completely unmotivated. Should I be in a rush to enroll back in college ASAP??? Even with no real plan yet?? OR Should I finally just get some low wage job around town so I can have a work record and some money in my pocket to at least enjoy myself A LITTLE around town, save a little (I have no bills), and just work and wait to enroll back in college when I'm more focused and decided on a degree Should I be in a big rush back in??? Get a Job??? or what? Give me some advice and input

Answer:
You need to spend some quality time with yourself. You know, go someplace and get your head together. Hit the road, head for a warm area, work odd jobs to support yourself, and come back when you feel like you have learned how the world actually works. Millions of young people do that every year and they all eventually settle down and find contentment.

Getting a general college degree and then deciding you want to be an engineer would be useless. Getting an engineering degree, hating it, and earning a low GPA would also be useless. I'd suggest putting college on hold, getting a job, and trying work your way up into a better position. Maybe a few years from now you'll have a better idea of what you want to do, and you can always go to college later if you figure it out.

If you have the money to do so, you should definitely go to college. If not, college is really a waste of time. Even if you get a degree, unless you have a great GPA and get into some prestigious colleges like Harvard Princeton Yale , it really won't help you much. The reason is that college tuition are extremely high especially during this economy. People who even get into Harvard has trouble paying back the money so some people are in debt forever for going to college. I don't know about you but you should make up your own mind. IF YOU DO have the money, however, college is a great experience to make friends and socialize a lot.

If you don't even know what to major in, then no, you should put off college and go find a job. It will help you build your finances, experience, and give you a clearer idea of what you want to be doing career wise. Once you have that idea, you can sit down and decide if it's something that would be worth getting a college degree for.
