Is it stupid to buy an ITouch on Ebay?

How can i tell if a company is selling the item i am looking at on ebay?

  • I am new to ebay and have sold 2 things, so i have $ in my paypal account. I am looking to buy a new itouch 3rd generation 32gig, but i want a warranty on it, obviously. I am a little skeptic buying one off ebay in case it is damaged or doesnt work, and I know that when most companies sell bulk items on ebay they often times come with a warranty. So my question is; is there a way that I can find out if a seller is for a company or not? If someone can tell me if that is possible or not that would be wonderful.

    You are pretty much left the the honesty of the seller. I would suggest that you educate yourself on any item you interested buying on Ebay, then very carefully read text and look at any pix. Just make yourself as informed as possible. Check the sellers feed backs for what that is worth. I have been buying and selling on Ebay for years and never had a serious problem. I am very careful about who and where I buy from. On more expensive items I tend to shy away from sellers with fewer than say 500 items sold and never buy from seller outside the US or Canada, but that's just me.

I don't think it's possible. However, if you want a warranty, squaretrade will warranty anything purchased in 'new' condition from ebay. They're cheap, and they're a very legitimate insurance agency. If your item breaks, they will either repair it or refund what you payed for it, dollar for dollar, whichever seems most reasonable. You can usually buy extra coverage for items you drop. Really, the only way I can think of to verify that an ebay seller is really a legitimate reseller is to ask them to send you a tax identification number.
