Where is the voltage regulator?

Where can i find schematics for a 12v voltage regulator?

  • I have a 110cc motor bike, and it has a positive output wire.. i took a voltage meter to it, and it puts out 12v on idle, and around 50 at full throttle... i want to keep the output voltage at 12v, so where would i find (or could you tell me) how to build a 12v output voltage regulator... it is DC output

  • Answer:

Bear in mind the generator output won't be at 50V under load and there could be some form of regulation in the generator already. Easy way to do a DIY regulator is to use a 1N3311 50W 12V Zener Diode on a big heatsink across the 12V Battery/Generator output (cathode to + and anode to ground). Mount the diode/heatsink between the front forks under the headlamp. Alternatively find the correct factory regulator for your bike if there isn't one integral with the generator (you haven't said which make/model). Get a Haynes Manual for the bike and check the electrical diagram for the bike and see how it is normally wired.
