How do you cut clips from a DVD?

How do I rip, clip, and burn DVD's?

  • With a budget of $40 can I purchase software that can rip copyrighted DVD's onto my hard drive. Once I get to that point is is possible to take clips or chapters from multiple DVD's and burn them onto a single DVD that can be played on a standard DVD player or a PS3? Will that require additional software or can that be done with Windows Movie Maker once the original DVD's have been burned onto my hard drive? I'm not a techie so if you can give me some tips on file formats and all that stuff it would be helpful. I do have some DVD+R discs to use to make the final product, will those play in a DVD player or the PS3? Since I'm sure somebody out there will mention the legal aspect of all this I'll point out that I'm not asking this because I want to make pirated copies of Hollywood films to sell on E-Bay or even to give to friends and family. I want to cut a few clips from movies and paste them into a home movie of sorts for my wife for Valentine's Day, and I've paid for all the movies I plan on using and will make no money in doing this.

  • Answer:

Sure sure, "valentine's day gift" Of course your not going to pirate once you learn how to, yada yada ya, heard it all before... Heres what you need to do... DVDshrink Software (google it and download it) It's some of the best and free (actually free not adware crap) dvd backup software, can even take off region codes/encryptions and do dual layer dvds. After which you can open the dvd up using windows movie maker, and edit out clips of it. reburn it to a dvd and pop in your ps3 or dvd player and there you have it.

I would use DVD-R instead of DVD+R. DVD-Rs have better compatibility with a wide variety of drives and readers. More info below. http://www.digital-scrapbooking-storage.com/dvd-formats.html
