M-Audio Pro Tools SE, how to use both inputs for recording.?

  • Ok so i went out and bought an M-Audio Fasttrack Pro Audio interface. it came with Pro Tools SE so Pro Tools Version 8.0.3 I installed all the Software for the Fast Track Pro and Pro Tools SE and ran my RCA outs to M-Audio Studiopro 3 monitors. I started up a vocal session and plugged my mic into the 1st input, set it to "line" not "instrument" and it recorded fine. Same with my guitar it picked it up and showed the levels going and the sound waves were show on the track being recorded. My problem is that once i plugged my mic/guitar into the 2nd output next to the other on the front, not the back, it wouldnt pick anything up on Pro Tools SE. The sound from my guitar/mic was coming out of the monitors but it wasnt being picked up on the tracks on Pro Tools. No levels or soundwaves at all. So basiclly Pro Tools is only set to pick up and recieve audio from the first input. Now i wanna be able to use my second input too, prefreblily at the same time on a different track so i can record my guitar on one track being played and vocals being sang on a second track going through a second input at the same time. That way i have two inputs going recording two different tracks at the same time so it comes out as one piece. All in all i cant get Pro Tools to pick up my second input, all the levels on the audio interface are up but nothing being shown on Pro Tools. How do i go in and change the settings so i can use my other input, at the same time as the first also. Oh and im using windows 7 64 bit my cables and guitar/mic are all good, i hope to record with a studio mic using the M-Audios phantom power. Thank you so much for the help everyone!

  • Answer:

Do you have two audio tracks set up in Pro Tools both with record enabled? Check the input settings and make sure the input is set to both the inputs.
