Why do my speakers make fuzzy noise?

Why do my computer speakers make noise when I use the volume knob?

  • THey make ridiculous feedback noise and its driving me crazy! Their Altec Lansing and the feedback is very annoying. I use them with my MacBook and they always made this noise. Very unpleasant. Please help.

  • Answer:

I'll bet it's because your volume knob is dirty, corroded or full of dust. If it's popping when you turn the volume knob up or down, that's the contacts in the knob skipping over the corrosion. You could try to replace the knob, but the best thing to do is either settle the knob somewhere where the audio is clear and use the computer to adjust the volume, or get new speakers. Sorry.
