Good speakers for a Macbook Black?

Why won't my MacBook play music through my speakers?

  • I have speakers that I use to play music through my MacBook. I have been using these speakers with my Mac since 2007. I was using them earlier today, and then made a phone call. When I hit play again, the music wasn't working. I unplugged my speakers from my computer and the music was still playing fine through my computer, but then when I plug my speakers in, it doesn't work. The computer isn't muted, and I am plugging the cord into the proper part of the computer. Literally nothing happened, all I did was hit pause to make a phone call and then unpause when my phone call was done, and it isn't working. Could something have changed in my sound settings? What can I do to get it to work again? I'm so lost! Thanks

  • Answer:

Check your speakers. Are they still plugged in to power? Did the power switch get bumped and accidentally turned off? It doesn't sound like the computer is the problem but the speakers. They may simply have failed at the same time as when you were on the phone. Try this simple test. Remove the plug from your computer. Turn the volume of the speakers all the way up. Touch the very end of the plug. You won't get a shock, this is the input to your speakers and has no voltage on it. If your speakers are working you should hear at least a faint hum or buzz when you touch just the tip end of the plug. If there's no sound at all the speakers are probably bad.
