How do I record my own song on a laptop?

How can i record myself doing covers of songs on an electronic drum kit?

• okay so all i want to do is record myself playing covers of songs like the thousands of youtube videos out there so i know it cant be that difficult. the main issue im having is recording the song/drums/video all in sync.. i have an alesis dm6, but thats irrelevant seeing how i wont be using the midi. anyways, i have 2 aux cables, and a headphone splitter so do i just put the splitter in the mic port of my laptop and have one aux cable from my drums and the other from the song? and then how would i make it so that when i record the video from a video camera it is synced with the drums?..besides trying to press record on the audio program and the video camera at the exact time cause that never seems to work out. if anyone could help me out here i'd appreciate it GREATLY as ive been attempting to do this for months now. thanks in advance

  the only idea that i can think of would be to hook you camera as a "web cam" and record onto the computer and to have your alesis dm6 plugged into an audio interface and have the interface used as a primary audio input on the video being recorded onto the computer. if your going to buy an interface try getting a alesis io2 express.
