I need to put VHS tapes on my computer.

How can I get clips from old recorded VHS tapes to separate files on my computer?

  • I have a mac book laptop, vcr/dvd player, and a bunch of recorded VHS tapes with video/audio clips on that I used to record before we had YouTube. I would really like to get rid of the VHS tapes but I want to save the clips. Is there a way to get the clips to save as separate files on my computer so i can later put them on DVD's as more organized clips? Can someonw please explain specifically to me how to do it? I am willing to buy a cable or something but I don't want to have to buy a whole new machine to do it. I'm sure there's gotta be a way but I need advice. Thanks in advance.

I know you dont want a new machine, and i can't remember the cost of it, but i was just at a brookstone at my mall and they had a specific machine that you put the tapes in and it would convert them to files on you computer. actually i just googled it its called iConvert and sells for $100. May be expensive, but i figure it would be the easiest way and fastest. It converts the files to a SD memory card that you can then put into a computer. (I dont have a mac so i dont know if they support sd cards)

Check out the company called Roxio, they have a lot of video/audio transfer equipment that will undoubtedly suit your needs.
