How do I get a Nirvana sound on guitar?

Cant get a clean sound on my guitar?

  • okay, so when I plug my semi acoustic guitar (fishman pickup, Tanglewood guitar) into my midi (alesis io2) and record on audacity, I get an interfering sound. (like when you touch the end of a lead while its plugged into an amp) the guitar cant be faulty because its brand new and plays perfectly through an amp. the midi cant be faulty because I have another similar steel string which records perfectly.. I have no idea what possibly could be causing this annoying sound.. any help would really be appreciated

  • Answer:

After a considerable head scratch and an assumption that you are using a Fishman pickup with a pre-amp the only thing I can think of that would cause a hum problem would be an impedance mismatch between the midi unit and the guitar. This isn't a fault, just an electronic fact if life that if you have a high into low or low into high impedance input/output combination you'll get hum problems like you are experiencing. Maybe try the guitar into the line input rather than the mic input also check your Alesis drivers are up to date as there were some bugs in earlier versions that caused some strange problems varying from no sound to unpredictable sound levels. Only other solution I can think of is to put an innocuous effects pedal in between the guitar and the Alesis to buffer the output e.g. a chorus pedal with the chorus effect turned down to minimum.
