Are there real jobs in the studio recording?

What to do about recording engineer?

  • im wondering if its a seasonal job. i dont want a seasonable job because i want to work everyday in a studio. also from what im hearing, its really hard to get a job in this era. any suggestions? i know that the best engineers work everyday jobs, any tips on what schools to take to be one of the best? please im 17, i LOVE experimenting with music. i play 2 cultural intruments for 9 years, i got into recording engineering at the age of 11 when i started managing the P.A system at my local church. i come from a race that recording and experimenting with music is in our genes and is popular in my race. i even had virtual DJ and mix already mixed music and different kinds of songs. any suggestions? i dont want a seasonal job..

  • Answer:

Go to college for it at least. Set up a small studio and do part time recording for small local bands, or do show engineering for them. Do it cheap (enough to cover your costs), and earn a name for yourself. Get a real job to have a living, until you have enough clientele to make a living off recording. I don't think it is seasonal as such, but unless you live where there is demand for recording, you likely will not be recording all the time. You might get more jobs in the summer doing outdoor shows and such.
