Is there a dual dvd player where you can play bluray and regular dvds?

Is it possible to burn a 720p HD H.264 encoded movie file to a DVD to see in HD on a bluray player?

  • I have a movie file on my computer in high definition format (H.264 H@L4.1). Would it be possible to burn this file from my computer onto a DVD for use in a Blu-Ray player and still keep it as 720p HD? I know it won't be a "Blu Ray" because it's a different technology... but my Blu Ray player plays DVDs, as well as can handle HD. So I was wondering is it possible to burn a high def file on a DVD and have it play better-than-standard-quality on a BluRay player? Would the resolution change by getting worse (going from 720p down to SD)?

  • Answer:

give it a try. i know that newest model blu-ray players can playback AVCHD encoded DVD discs. the main problem will be runtime. a DVD does not have the density of blue-ray discs, so you will only be able to put about 20 minutes of the movie per DVD.
