When purchasing a new tv, does 60 HZ vs 120 Hz REALLY matter?

120 hz vs 60 hz for mostly PS3 use, no HD cable just antenna feed?

  • So I am looking for a 40" LCD 1080p obviously that will be mostly for watching blu ray movies and also playing games on PS3. Since I will be living in a furnished apt complex, it is a standard antenna feed from the wall-- so I will not be using it for HD satellite although in the future I will be. For what I will be using it now, should I get 60hz, or should I get 120hz so I have it for future use as well? I basically want a TV that will look perfect but at the same time be able to last me for the next 5-7 yrs technologically. Price range ($700-900) Thanks

  • Answer:

I don't find the 120 hz. a big deal...In fact, I shut if off for many movies, It screws something up for some reason. Just doesn't look right. I have heard this from others also. 60 hz. is fine. Most all stations and cable companies broadcast in 1080i anyways, but 1080p is good for Blu Ray DVD's and PS3.. Remember, however, that LCD is not as good as Plasma for fast moving games and TV sports. It will blur on many LCD's as it has a much slower response time.!
