How do I make a RCA to VGA cable?

Does anyone know how to make a vga cable into a rca?

  • I want to make my computer monitor into a tv but I need a vga to rca cable and the local electronics store does not have them. Is there any way I could just cut off one end of a vga cable and solder on some new ends? how should I go about it?

  • Answer:

Assuming you are trying to display a composite (1x RCA) or component (3x RCA) video signal from, say, a cable box on a computer monitor with a 15-pin VGA input, unfortunately it's not as simple as just making a special cable. The VGA video format uses a different color space (red/green/blue) than component video (luma/chroma), so you need a video converter device. Refer to this wikipedia article for in-depth details of the difference between VGA (RGB) and component (YCbCr) video: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Component_video You might consider a box like this: http://www.startech.com/item/CPNT2VGAA-Component-YPbPr-to-VGA-with-Audio-Converter.aspx
