How late can i claim housing benefits?

  • I signed on for job seekers at the beginning of july but never got around to applying for housing benefits. Is it now too late to claim housing benefits from the beginning of july onwards?

    Housing Benefit can only be backdated in exceptional circumstances. For example, if you were hospitalised up until now.

You can only contact your housing department with a good excuse and claim from July. They may take the view that you have been able to live without the benefit and therefore do not now need benefit unless you say you have borrowed money which you now have to pay back. But if your a black one legged lesbian you will have no problem.
