How do you become a real estate investor?

Is it normal to pay for mentorship when you want become a real estate investor?

  • Just a quick question, I've been reading about the subject and something that keeps repeating itself is the value of having a mentor when you're first learning the ropes. I mean is that a service I have to pay for or like how does that even work?

  • Answer:

I agree that having a mentor is very important to gaining success in real estate, but you don't pay a mentor out of pocket for the service. I mean you may buy him/her the occasional lunch, but not pay him a salary. Instead I basically became a slave to my mentor to do his busy work freeing his time to gain more customers. every now and then he would share a commission with me, but the true prize was learning the business from him and gaining the hands on experience

Being a mentor is a lot of work. If you are going to be an employee of a company long term somebody might be assigned as part of their job to mentor you. As you would be doing some productive work (I would hope), the company would pay you too. If on the other hand, you just want to learn and then go out on your own, you offer nothing to the company so it would seem reasonable for you to pay just as you would pay to go to a class in college.
