How much should I bring for parking on South Street in Philly?

$1500 Homeowners association fine for parking?

  • Ill try to make this as short as possible. Our HOA only lets you park on the street 3 nights out of the week with a guest pass that we can use. I bring my work truck home some nights and it does not fit in my garage. I try to make sure its no more than 3 nights a week sometimes it happens to be 4. I emailed our head of the HOA about coming up with a compromise about parking my truck on the street and never got an answer. Finally was sent a letter saying I needed to show up at our HOA hearing for parking violations. Showed up on time and stated my case. All the board members understood my issue with not being able to get my truck in the garage and said they would discuss it and I would have an answer in a couple weeks. Couple weeks go by and I get a letter that says there will be no fines. So im thinking ok great, just make sure im not on the street more than 3 days a week and im golden. Well yesterday I get a letter from my HOA saying that everytime I was parked on the street regardless of how many times a week they were fining me. The total was $1500!!!! Unbelievable. I have a call out to the head of the HOA to figure this out. My whole issue besides the $1500 fine is that they never said I couldn't park on the street at all. How can I be fined when all the dates shown in the letter don't add up to more than 3 times in a week? How can I be fined for something when I didn't break the 3 day a week rule and they never told me not to park on the street ever again? Really confused and frustrated. I understand the rule and have done everything possible to make sure I am not out there past the limit and now they hit me with this. Crazy. Any suggestions on how to deal with this? Thanks guys

take the rules hand book to the next meeting with your atty in tow and tell them that collecting this will cause a suite of action on them and to leave you alone

So you knew that you were breaking the rules? You do not have a leg to stand on. You only recourse is if the HOA charged you too much.

1. Read your bylaws...find out if the parking fine is listed. 2. Ask for copies for everytime it was reported and by whom. Don't CALL anyone...go to the next meeting, bring an attorney and tell them you are prepared to countersue. I cannot tell you how serious I am regarding this....they can place a lien against your property and force the foreclosure if you don't pay it or get it resolved.
