Can I put an RV/Camping Trailer on vacant land that I own?

  • I own 20 acres of Land in California around the LA area. And I live about 2 miles from this vacant land. I have had this empty land for many years and there are no residents living around the area. Because of this, I would like to park my RV/Camping trailer on the vacant land. Aside from the security issues involved, please answer the following questions that I wonder about: 1) First, what am I allowed to do with vacant land anyway? Are we able to store things on it? Put things on the land? Or do you have to live there to put things on the land? 2) If the land is empty and no one around my area for for many acres of land, why would I be restricted (if I was) to putting an RV/Camping trailer on the property? 3) Are there any laws that I should be aware of? 4) If I have specific and unique questions, who can I contact to find out what the laws would be for my vacant land? Thanks!

It depends on your "plot" - go to the City Planning Dept. to get info - some land is build-able and some is not! Normally, you can and should put some building on it - at least a steel workshop type thing for storage. If roads are not really good and its twenty miles from civilization, the likely hood that someone would stumble across your building is very remote. The only problem I can see is that of getting electricity to your RV - you can of course bring in your own generator & gasoline to power at night - and use solar power during the day!
