Where are Foreclosure Auctions held?

Once you find the address of a foreclosure, how can you find out where the auction is being held?

  • For example, I found a foreclosed property on Zillow. 17725 Meadow Vista Way, Gaithersburg MD Do I have to sign up for the foreclosure.com service in order to find out where the auction is being held? Is there another way?

  • Answer:

You can call whoever is foreclosing on the property. It will either be the lender or the county tax assessor's office.

Two ways....call the county tax office and find out if the foreclosure is a tax foreclosure, and if so, ask when and where the tax auction will be (bring cash). If is not a tax foreclosure, it is probably a bank/mortgage foreclosure, in which case, there may not be an auction. In this case, go to the county clerk with the address and ask to see who the lien holder is. That will give you the entity holding the mortgage and you can call them and get all the particulars (unluckily, the tax assessment database for Maryland does not provide lienholders, only owners).
