Where can I search free grants?

Where should I search for grants to renovate a home? Is this even available to us?

  • My husband was talking with his boss yesterday, who has a construction business. He's built and flipped homes for some time now, and mentioned to my husband that there are grants meant for local historical homes. My husband and his father bought our home 4 years ago. Since then, we've come to realize that it is listed in our local historical society records. It is a round house (not octagon, but round), which does bring in some issues when updating some things. It was built in 1860, so it needs a lot of work (old plaster & lathe, etc). Are these types of grants truly available for such purposes such as renovating/updating an older home like this? We aren't really looking at gaining any profit, but try to make it more livable. It needs quite a bit of work, and if something like this is available, it would really help us try to restore some of this home to it's original state. If these are available, where is the best place to start looking? We've done a little research online, but it's hard to find the information we're looking for. Thanks so much for any help =]
