What is the weather like in NC this month?

My current lease will expire on 7/23/10 after that it will automatically go month to month. I live in NC.?

  • I just got news I will be getting a promotion but the job is in Texas and I have 2weeks to move so I asked if it could be extended out to the 1st of August. Since my lease will be expired, by NC law am I required to give a 30 day notice? If not, when should I give notice? If I gice it during my current lease term, is that considered 30 day notice? Can the landlord still charge me another month's rent?

  • Answer:

30 days is 30 days. If your lease says that it reverts to month-to-month, then you're still liable to give 30 days notice (or whatever is on the lease, and if nothing, then whatever NC law says). To be honest, I really don't think it's a big deal to have 2 overlapping weeks where you will have already moved out. You're actually quite lucky with the timing, since your lease is so close to expiring anyway. Imagine if you had three or four or more months left on your lease? Now THAT would be a problem. I suggest talking to your landlord and explaining the situation. If demand for rentals in your area is reasonable, then perhaps you can find someone to replace you, which will make your landlord very happy since he's about to lose you anyway.
