How to pay using paypal in ebay?

Can I pay on ebay using a paypal account that doesn't have a card linked to it (UK)?

  • Hi, I have a VISA ELECTRON card. I have always used a family members paypal account to pay for things on paypal. I have decided I am fed up with it and have tried to sort my own account up. I managed to set up the bank funding, so my bank is now linked to the account, and I am verified. But it still doesn't let me add a card, it gives an error message which tells me to email paypal (which I have just done). Now my question is, do I need to bother worrying about linking a card to my account? I want to start buying things on ebay, can I pay using paypal if my account is only linked to my bank and now my card? Thanks all!!

    You can use your PayPal account straightaway. The money for anything that you buy will be taken from your bank account. You should be able to register the Electron card later on if you want, as that's one that they'll accept https://www.paypal.com/helpscr?cmd=_help&locale=en_GB&countrycode=GB&_dyncharset=UTF-8&t=solutionTab&ps=solutionPanels&solutionId=163223 but you'll have to see what they say when they reply to your email. If it's already registered to another PayPal account, though, you won't be able to register it to your new one - cards and bank accounts can only be linked to one PayPal account at a time, not 'shared'.

You can start buying but there will initially be a limit imposed i think, payment naturally has to be taken from your bank but. and it is a big but, i think that you will find that without a secondary funding source (credit card) registered any payment you make will not be an instant transfer but will be sent to the buyer by e-cheque which can take up to 10 days to clear and sellers are advised not to despatch the goods until they are notified it is cleared. Most sellers think e-cheques are a pain in the butt !
